Presentation
Aware that the past two decades , our region has been the scene of armed conflicts that have been a source of major humanitarian crisis with millions of IDPs and refugees, the destruction of infrastructure , social disintegration , economic and cultural , including the commitment of several billion dollars for post- crisis rehabilitation and reconstruction of IDPs , it was urgent for women in the ECOWAS Region , to create a working platform , to act in concert level of our States . This working platform is the REPSFECO .
Missions
The REPSFECO is:
• To coordinate and optimize the roles, initiatives of women in conflict prevention, the maintenance of peace and security, post-conflict reconstruction and the promotion of human rights, especially women and other vulnerable groups, to ensure durable peace in West Africa.
• To promote a strategic partnership to empower women, equity and equality of opportunity between the sexes in matters of peace and security in ECOWAS
• To enhance partnership with the Department of Political Affairs Peace and Security of ECOWAS, the Council of Peace and Security of the African Union, the United Nations Office for West Africa and any other organization that is interest
• To contribute to the integration of the gender perspective in policies, programs and implementation of activities of the revised ECOWAS Treaty, its Protocol Relating to the Mechanism, Management and Conflict Resolution, Maintenance of Peace and Security and its Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance,
• To facilitate the ownership, implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Protocol to the African Charter on Human Rights and People on rights of Women in Africa as well as resolutions 1325 and 1820 of the UN Security Council.
It was at the initiative of Mr. Ibn Chambas, President of ECOWAS Commission and with the support of Madame AMINATA SBIR, Director of the Gender Centre for the Development of ECOWAS (CCDG) Network that was created to Abidjan.
It is composed of 15 member countries of ECOWAS.
