Presentation
The Association of West African Women (WAWA) is a regional organization of women which groups 16 countries of ECOWAS. It has emerged in recent years as a powerful advocacy mechanism for consultation, lobbying but also concrete actions to promote the economic status of women in West Africa.
Divided into national units, regional WAWA has several organizations and women's associations and individual members whose expertise is recognized. The operation of regional WAWA is governed by laws, rules and procedures manuals. Thus each cell of the National WAWA place independently its animation, mobilization under the supervision of the Regional Office with headquarters in Dakar.
Considered pilot cell, AFAO- SENEGAL, is recognized by the State of Senegal since August 1992 under the last General Assembly in Abidjan in September 1988, which suggested to decentralize to the provinces, departments and regions. So, since July 2003, WAWA Senegal has established its representation in all 14 regions of Senegal.
Moreover, the regional as a member of ECOSOCC / AU and Permanent Observer of the Summit of Heads of States of ECOWAS WAWA, occupies an important place in the West African Civil Society.Missions
