Minister for Water and Sanitation

Presentation

The Ministry of Water and Sanitation led by Mr. Mansour Faye is under the authority of the Prime Minister since 4 July 2012.

Missions

 The Decree 2012-654 of 4 July 2012 entrusted the preparation and implementation of the policy defined by the Head of State in the fields of hydraulic and sanitation. He is responsible for the water supply of populations in rural, urban and suburban. It is responsible for the implementation, operation and maintenance of hydraulic structures. It is responsible for the definition and implementation of tariff policies for drinking water supply. He supervises the National Water Company of Senegal (SONES) and Water Company (SDE). It monitors the quality of water supplied to households and businesses. It also ensures the enhancement of national hydrographic potential and ensure the availability of water to the satisfaction of the needs of agriculture and livestock on the national territory. It is also responsible for the implementation of the national water system and contributes, in conjunction with the Minister of Agriculture, development of irrigable land. He is responsible for the sanitation policy. It ensures the achievement and maintenance of equipment for the collection, disposal and treatment of wastewater and rainwater. For this purpose, it supervises the National Office for Sanitation of Senegal (ONAS). As such, it ensures the collection, transportation and recycling of household and industrial liquid waste.
