 Mr. Serigne Mbaye Thiam is head of the Department of Education of Senegal since 4 July 2012.

Missions

 The Ministry of Education prepares and implements the policy defined by the Head of State for education and training of children and young people in age to attend schools offering preschool, elementary, general means or secondary general and in the field of adult literacy and the promotion of national languages. It operates in the African education system. It is responsible, as such, management of the public preschool, primary, middle and secondary general. He prepares and applies the policy with regard to private preschool, primary, middle and secondary general. He oversees the development of an education policy for the youngest.

He oversees the development of Koranic schools and Franco-Arab schools and their integration into the national education system. It encourages the practice of reading, writing and science. It is responsible for ensuring the quality of teaching programs and implements the reforms required for this purpose. It ensures the continuous education of the population through the development of literacy programs and appropriate training. It follows the relationship with Unesco.
